Hey all, Just an update on my 2, whom I've had now for a week (and Peatrie about 10 days). I did start off by saying how tame she was! But since having Luca she seems to have reverted back to being untame, so that was a bit disappointing! Trying not to get disheartened though. I'm now trying to focus on taming Luca as he seems more acceptant of it, and hoping if he becomes tame she will follow. I've had them outside the cage a couple times, they won't come out by themselves, so I switch the lights off and gently cup one of them in my hands and let them fly. The other usually follows really fast on their own! So every day I try to put aside at least 10-15 minutes or more, dependant on my work schedules to put my hand quietly into their cage with some treats in it. Sometimes I get them to perch on my hand, but most of the time they then hop off quickly. Am I doing this all correctly? I read so many threads from you guys with the same scenarios and realise it's a long procedure, but as this is my first budgie-couple I want to be going about it right. The last thing I want to do is make them more frightened of me. Thanks for any feedback. x

The reason why Peatrie has gone off a bit is because she is now interested in luca, that should wear off in time and should get better, I think your doing ok putting your hand in so they know it's not a threat to them, just keep it up, make noise, do a whistle each time you go near them, so they will accept you and know it's you.............

Thanks brian. I thought I'd seek some reassurance as I thought I'd gotten really lucky with such a tame hen!! The good and most important news is that they adore each other, and are getting along really well.

Hi littlestar, it was probably that Peatrie was a little scared and hadn't fully settled in. As she has become more comfortable she isn't struck rigid and is now showing her will. I agree with Brian, keep up the hand in the cage and go slowly. Any spare time you can afford to give to taming them will bring its own rewards, if you can give 10 minutes several times a day, do so.
