Hello all. Does anyone use a baby monitor to view/hear what their buds are getting up to? Specifically, the night vision functionality?
Thinking of getting one to see if there is any night time trouble. I don't want to be turning on the light & disturbing them if they are fine, so thought it would be handy to check via the monitor if anyone has fallen off their perch (their cover only goes down halfway).
Thanks!

I have a Blink system I used whilst I worked away from home a lot. I have retasked it for watching the birds if I'm away for the day. It's adequate. There may be better alternatives. It doesn't have night vision, it relies upon a triggered spotlight at night.

Sorry SP never had that but could see how it would be useful!
I do recall Oldpecker had a night vision camera trained on the cage at night but then dunno if you'd get any sound with that?

I don't have one for the birds but I have one for Eve and that has night vision. With mine, the camera has to be plugged in to the mains all the time. But the night vision video quality is excellent.
I am sure there are better ones on the market more suitable for budgies though.

That's exactly what I remembered... OP & his night vision camera!! Those sort of cameras seem a bit complicated... & I'm not sure how you view the results. I think OP just wanted to view the results later to see what they were up to, whereas I want to act immediately on the results. Also, there is the (high) potential they won't like a scary gadget stuck to their cage!

I am sure there are better ones on the market more suitable for budgies though. I think you can get wireless ones now. Good to know the night vision quality is excellent. What make is yours?

Thanks loz. I had to google that. So, it's a security system. I guess you access/view it through your smart phone? It is a security system of sorts. Viewed on your smartphone. I used in anger once when someone started snooping around my living accommodation when I was at work! It suits me now for keeping an eye on the birbs. More modern Blink system have two-way comms so you can tell your naughty budgies not to be naughty!

This is the one I use for Homer, EZVIZ C2C HD 720p Wi-Fi camera with a magnetic base Indoor Wi-Fi Security Camera (C2C 720p) It has a usb plug (must be plugged) and I have an app on the phone to view him, there is night vision too, I’ve been using it for over a year now and I like it a lot You can even speak through it, take videos and photos

More modern Blink system have two-way comms so you can tell your naughty budgies not to be naughty! The wonders of technology! I have a traditional webcam set up for daytime use if I am going to be away for a few hours. Used to use it all the time when I worked in the office. Really handy to check in on them & see if they are up to mischief. One time I checked it just before I left the office (all were fine) but by the time I got home, one hour later, I found one of my birds struggling to pass an egg (a story in itself). The point being that I knew it was a recent development & she had not been ill all day.

Agree - I only need it for basics & don't even need the whistles & bells that come with the baby monitors, though perhaps the lullabies might be handy... Thanks for the link - handy to check the specs.

I couldn't find the exact one on Amazon but found something similar (maybe it's a newer model). It's certainly the type that I am leaning towards so it's good to know you find it useful.

lemonora - can you hear your buds through your ezviz monitor? I'm reading that there is motion detection but not sound detection. Perhaps that just means it doesn't send a notification if it hears something, but you can hear if you view the livestream.
