We are being told it’s a possibility this winter that we could have power cuts and to stock up on candles!! Has anyone thought of this and what us budgie owners are supposed to do?

Absolutely! We have bought one of these: LanternWe thought it would be ideal as there are many ways to charge it (including winding as well as solar) and it wont have any smell or fumes for to cause trouble for Nubby. We have also invested in a small camping stove for the kitchen with portable gas cannisters but would obviously keep that away in the kitchen with the door shut.

That looks excellent especially as it can be wound up 👍🏻👍🏻

It has gone up in proce but am sure there are others that would be just as good for a cheaper price. Think they are all realising that people are buying stuff like this now so putting their prices up

I read the other day that torches are more advisable than candles.
Just need to stock up on extra batteries.
It's a bit of a worry, but fingers crossed it might not happen.

The vet did say if you use candles, they should be beeswax and unscented and make sure the wick does not contain lead. I looked up that type of candle and found out they are very expensive. I think the lantern suggested looks good or a battery operated one and yes, stock up on batteries.

As a kid, I enjoyed the candlelit baths and dinners, it was an adventure.
We owned a grocery store at the time. Thankfully the tills could be cranked manually with a handle when the power was off. Can't say that today!

Wow hand cranks and flares. Sounds wild Actually where I live there were power cuts in the 1980's too so we always had candles in the drawer in the kitchen!

Perhaps if I save up, I can get one of these to moderate the forum on.

It looks so clunky and chunky Marianne Marlow. Floppy disks too! Who’d have thought we’d be doing so much on handheld devices!

I've now got one of those lamps samwiseg, on your recommendation. I also bought a little camping stove that would heat up a soup or a pan of water. Can't seem to copy and paste at the moment, but if you research camping gas stoves on Amazon they come up with lots of different alternatives, small and large ones.
