"Activated charcoal" Hezz, I'm intrigued, it's something I've never heard of, can you enlighten me. It is charcoal that is treated and heated in a particular way that causes the charcoal to open up into tiny pores. Something in the charcoal attracts all sorts of chemicals into the pores and these are then trapped in the pores and passed through the digestive system with no further harm done to the body. It’s commonly used to counteract poisons in humans and animals but it does also pull other chemicals out of the body, good ones as well as bad, so is not to be used without consideration. Lumps of charcoal can be left for birds including poultry to peck/nibble on as they feel the need. There are probably better explanations out there, but I’m just giving the abbreviated Hezz version. This is from a site that sells activated charcoal for birds: BIRD CHARCOAL (SMALL) Bird Charcoal - Two Sizes Bird Charcoal - an excellent digestive aid that also adsorbs certain microbes and their toxins in the stomach. TWO SIZES for Small and Large birds. Small granular Bird Charcoal suitable for canaries, parakeets, love birds and finches. May be sprinkled in small amount over food, or in a small treat cup or even over cage paper on the bottom of the cage.Ira can probably add a degree more medical info to my explanation.

He’s fine, but he was all the way through. The problem is by the time the caffeine kicks in the damage may already be done - caffeine overload causes the heart to go into over-drive which can be hard to reverse and particularly dangerous to our feathered friends.

I understand the use of activated charcoal as a "detoxifier" but how to get it inside a bird ... that's a puzzle to me! The same way they do a crop wash or crop feed - a large bore crop needle.

Ira can probably add a degree more medical info to my explanation. Nope! Well, not without going to do some reading.
