I hope everyone is doing well and healthy🌹❤️
My nephew (10 years old) has a cat and he caught a skin fungus infection from his cat and he’s taking medicine and applying cream meds, he is coming to visit in a few days, of course I will not let him near my birds or me or even the room, but any other precautions I should look out for ? Im so worried and if I was able to leave with the whole house till he leaves I would’ve done so. any input would be greatly appreciated 🌹

Is it contagious from human to human? Any idea what it’s called?

It depends if contagious. You could get a spray can of dettol, then just go round after he’s gone, spraying handles etc. or anti bac wipes. Ask him to put hand gel on

It sounds like you are taking the needed precautions. From what I've read, funguses are readily spread. You probably are planning this but also make sure you wash your hands before touching the birds, their cage or food. Good luck, good health.

The usual fungal infection caught from cats is ringworm. Is this what he has? It is infectious and the biggest help is to keep his hands away from touching it to save from it being spread around.

Thank you all for your replies I don’t know what it’s called, his mother didn’t tell us, he is staying for three weeks, and I’m planning on not letting him near me, the birds or the room, I can ask what he has if it’s really important, I actually told my other family members who will be in contact with him not to come near my room, as if I’m in quarantine with the birds, I can’t even imagine putting my buds in danger Thanks again for all your input, it’s greatly appreciated 🌹

I recall as a child my sisters and I had a sleep over with a cousin and we all came home with ringworm. We had these red circles mostly on my belly I think. There was an ointment that we put on the spots and I think it cleared up soon. Hopefully your nephew's fungus clears up soon and it is not spread to anyone else.

Thank you I hope so too 👍 It actually sounds like exactly what you described they’re saying he’s been putting ointment medicine on red spots over his body and that it’s getting better sure sounds the same 👍 thanks again I’m relieved 🌹

He arrived today, and they’re saying that all the skin redness is gone and he even stopped applying the medicine ointment, so is it safe now? he is dying to see them and I keep delaying, could he still be a carrier? I don’t want to do anything that may put them in danger if even by 1% Any input is appreciated 🌹

As I recall, once the spots are gone, the infection is gone. I think he can see the budgies. Over the next 2-3 days, watch to see if the spots reappear and if not, he'll be safe to handle the birds and their stuff. Fortunately ringworm is easily treated and gotten rid of.

Agree, once the spots have faded all should be good, but I would get him to wash his each and every time he goes into their room.

Sorry, that should have said “hands” - “wash his hands” before going anywhere near the birds.
