Maybe he's still trying to decide if you are friend or foe?

NO! I made that mistake with both Blithe and Max and got a bite for my cheek! Have you offered up your beak for a bashing?

Most likely when he joins the flock, he'll follow their lead. It will be interesting to see which one of your flock that he pays most attention to and copies how that one interacts with you.

Their lead ranges from: Max: Will jump on my hand any time it's offered Peter and George: Will jump on my hand if needing a lift back to the cage Colin, Daisy: Are off as soon as I am within a metre of them Iris: Will tolerate my hand in the cage near her but is off if she thinks I'll grab her Penny: tolerates my hand in her cage if I move slowly. If I move faster she throws herself off her perch. Billy: I can get quite close to him and blink right in his face but wont let me offer him anything such as millet in my hand Chipper: zooms past me all the time within an inch and will come over and eat the seed as I am filling the bowls at night. Most likely when he joins the flock, he'll follow their lead. It will be interesting to see which one of your flock that he pays most attention to and copies how that one interacts with you.

Was just reading this wikipedia article: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eye_pinningI thought this was interesting: "In the Panama amazon, eye pinning has been noted during vocal communication with humans. The parrot's eyes were observed to noticeably contract when talking or mimicking other sounds of human origin, video recordings indicating that the pupils began contracting several milliseconds prior to the utterance, perhaps suggesting some sort of 'internal rehearsal' process. This was not seen to be the case in the experiment with innate parrot sounds such as short squawks, neither was this behavior observed in a non-talking blue-fronted amazon. In certain circumstances, eye pinning would also occur when the bird heard specific favored words or sounds from humans.[7]"

Goodness, I’ve been so busy and then when I come back on for a catch up, so much appears to have happened! This is a lovely thread Marianne Marlow and I’m so pleased to welcome Dinku to the forum flock. What a gorgeous little boy. Really looking forward to hearing how things go at the end of quarantine.

Maybe you should quarantine him for another month and see if you can teach him to talk😉

So.. I decided to let Dinku into Gen pop a couple of days early. Due to Christmas and commitments with the rellies I wanted him to come out on a day when I knew I'd be in all day long. Here are some photos. All going well so far! He's a great flier

He is pretty calm so far actually yes. He's sticking with the greens mostly. Budgies do have a colour preference, it's so odd! Love it! He's a calm little guy checking things out while the others are looking him over.
