Well, he had his first flight .. and it scared me.. he went straight over to the window.. the blinds were partly drawn but he managed to get through them and was up and down the window... Managed to shoo him out then he did about 6 laps of the ceiling... Dropped behind a cabinet.. he stepped onto my hand and I put him back in his cage and left the door open.. after a few minutes out he hopped and did the exact same thing but fell behind a different cabinet .. so again got him to step up and popped him back in his cage... Now he's VERY still and quiet. I'm hoping he's just tired and not given himself a huge fright. It is the first time he's had a fly out since being born so may be tired. Hope he perks up soon worried I let him out too soon but finger taming was going so well and getting him back in wasn't an issue.. will do another post with taming progress and a video.. just hope I've not gone too fast with him for flying out...

Buddy did the exact same things with the blinds and the circuits of the room, then he fell behind the TV……he came on my hand and then did another few curcits and landed on top of the curtain pole. I got him down with a cane and he got on my hand and put him in his cage. So I shouldn’t worry he will be fine by tomorrow.

For the first times out, until the bird is familiar with the room and its furniture, you are better off blocking those small spaces that can gobble up a learner flier. Behind cabinets, bookshelves, radiators etc are frequently dropped behind and can be very hard to move to reclaim bird. Old sheets or blankets work well for this and can save you both a lot of anxiety.

I want to try find him a tall perch for the corners of the rooms thinking maybe hat stand x 2 with a rope.. between the two at opposite ends of the room. Although struggling to find the right one

He was fine and he likes being out.. now he's been out he's a bit of a maniac like buddy and the taming process has gone a little backwards.. keep us on our toes don't they. Does buddy show any interest in his toys yet? Bo doesn't in the slightest. X

Although struggling to find the right one A couple of tall perching stations is a good idea but let him fly between them rather than stringing up a rope which will most likely only get in your way anyway. It can be more fun and much more satisfying to make your own station, screw it to a base and sit on a tall stool. It gives him his own safe place to perch and can be a foraging spot as well.

That's a brilliant idea! I actually have an unused tall stool..
