Pretty!
Lovely looking budgie! I'm always wrong but I think a young boy. Type 1 yellowface is as far as I got on the mutation.
Random name suggestion - Cedar?

What a gorgeous budgie. No ideas on mutation. Gender, I think male. Name? Thistle

Thanks guys. I'm loving the name suggestions. New bud was 'advertised' as a male but I think the staff were a bit unsure to be honest. Something tells me that a third boy might be an easier addition but I've had a very feminine feeling about 'her' all day. As I put Willow and Bramble to bed tonight (Willow hops onto my hand and is transferred into sleep cage, Bramble hops onto a specific swing before I transfer him to cage roof and he climbs in himself (always has done his own thing that one) all of which took less than a minute) I told them that these days were numbered and that bedtimes may not always be so stress-free

What gorgeous coloring!!! Since he's an early Christmas gift, I would have suggested 'mistletoe' but I think thats too long, so how about 'spruce' which would fit either boy or girl.

I'm guessing male, single factor type 1 yellowface sky blue opaline. I think it may technically be what people classify as a 'rainbow'.

What a beautiful budgie, and so lucky to have managed the outside world. They are going to love living with you.

Thanks all. We are so thrilled to have them and can't wait for them to join the boys. Just in case it helps any I've posted a pic of when they were first found in November, it's not very clear though and the male opinions seem unanimous! Wow Ira that's a lot going on. Is the opaline responsible for the very pale flight feathers can I ask? I'm googling rainbow budgies now to try to get my head around it a bit. Thanks!

Ira I found this bit about spangle rainbow budgies as opposed to clearwing rainbow which also seems to fit I think (but I have no clue really!)

willowsmum No, just contributes to the lack of/very fine head bars and the combination of yellow and blue in the wings in his case. Tempted to add single factor spangle into the mix... That combined with the opaline is what essentially removes the black markings and replaces it with body colour. (Super simplified version, i.e. that's what it looks like but genetics are crazy)
