hi there. My daughter has just bought me a young male budgie for me to hand tame. I have called him Buddy and he is blue and yellow. I have only had him 24hrs and is sitting quietly in his cage very still but I have caught him eating. I am assuming he is still adjusting to his new surroundings. How long should I leave him before I start trying to hand tame him and what is the best way to go about it? I would be greatful for any advice you can give me.

I have a blue and yellow budgie named Buddy also! He may be very quiet and still for 3 or 4 days. When you change his food and water, move your hand very, very slowly. Spend time talking to him, read to him, sing to him while he gets used to seeing you. Don't start trying to hand tame him until he starts moving normally about his cage. Start by getting some millet spray and holding it up to him calmly while he eats and talk softly to him while he's eating. Others will give you more suggestions.

After few days then i started to put my hands inside the cage and slowly tryed to get our female budgie to sit on my finger, she jumped away each time. Then i was sitting next to her cage and making some easy sounds with my lips, so that she could learn to mimic me. Just make some funny sounds and see if ur budgie looks at you. After few days of this, then one day she jumped up on my finger inside the cage, but it was only for few seconds. But in the end she got use to it.
Just dont overstress ur budgie with the finger inside the cage. And move it slowly. try with some millet.
