Just picked this up. I cannot even be sure of what it is! The sheath enclosing half the length of the object behaves like cellophane that is aged and slightly crumbly. All in all, it doesn't look or feel natural. Is one of my budgies an android?

It's a malformed feather that has not come out of it's casing properly. Roswell used to have some like this on one wing, it never grew right.

It's the first one I've found, which means it's likely to be Hector's ... but the colour suggests Eeyore. A mystery to be solved, eventually.

Blue-grey. It's a match for Eeyore's fluffies.

It might help if we had an idea of its size - a picture of it beside a ruler or some other object that we are familiar with its size like a pencil. I'll defer to Marianne Marlow greater experience. Not knowing the size, I wondered if some other critter got into your house and dropped it?

Not knowing the size, I wondered if some other critter got into your house and dropped it? I normally put something to help with scale, not sure why I didn't this time. It's probably Chocobo's fault. The feather is about 4-4.5cm long, just under 2 inches. I found it right where I'd expect to find stuff discarded by the buds, next to the forage gym. No critters in my house! Well, not big enough to account for the feather.

Agree with Marianne: a feather that hasn’t matured properly. Most likely the bird responsible has pulled it themselves knowing it wasn’t progressing the way it should. It doesn’t happen a lot but isn’t totally unusual. If the keratin sheath around the feather doesn’t come off easily then the feather hasn’t reached the stage of maturity needed to be a useful member of a bird’s plumage. Sometimes you will see a long feather (tail or wing) that has a piece stuck in the middle of the feather.
