Has anyone heard of using E45 cream on a bird?
I seem to remember that my vet mentioned it is better than Savlon (though don't quote me on that).

It is not something I even knew of, so no, I can’t help you there, sweetpea. Are you thinking of something for Perry’s “gory thing”?

I don’t know the answer, but it does have a very strong smell and is thick and doesn’t wipe off easily. Would he be able to peck at it?

I was thinking of smearing something on my finger so Perry got some on the underside of his foot when he stepped on. I might just stick to Savlon.

Lanolin (sheeps’ wool grease) does have a strong smell, but is safe in itself. His cage may smell of sheep yards and shearing sheds. It may make his perches slippery for him unless they were wrapped. Shearing shed floors end up looking as though they had been polished due to the lanolin in the wool. I do remember Shirls using Fucidin to successfully treat bumblefoot.

I've tried Savlon by smearing it on my finger for when he steps up. It's very slippery so I have to be careful, but I think he does actually get some on the underside of his feet. I can't present my finger with it on, so I turn my finger to the uncreamed bit, then turn when he gets on.
I also tried Sudocrem but that is much thicker & doesn't appear to transfer to Perry's feet. It takes a bit of scrubbing to get off my finger too. (Obviously a good quality for a barrier cream but perhaps not so useful when wanting to transfer it). Think the E45 might be similar to this.

Thinking aloud here … could you mix some aloe gel with the sudocrem? That might make it a bit stickier, and more transferable. Plus the added bonus of the aloe gel itself.
