Written by (Dr) Darryl Jones, an urban ecologist lecturing in one of Aust universities. This is a great book, definitely for those of us fortunate enough to live in Australia, more specifically Queensland, looking at different aspects of how birds have adapted to live in an urban environment. A lot of the content comes from Ph D thesis studies of his students in and around the city of Brisbane, which sounds rather dry but is not at all, and very interesting. He has a great way of telling a story, more anecdotal than research material. If anyone does decide to check it out, remember these are Aussie birds, named, mostly, by British colonists. Our magpies are not really magpies, our wrens aren’t wrens, but rather fairy-wrens, a magpie-lark which is neither a magpie or a lark! The curlews on Vulture St are bush stone-curlews, not sand curlews.
