My little grey boy Colin has passed away this morning.
Yesterday morning I uncovered his cage to find that he had thrown up seed everywhere and was very fluffed up and weak.
The night before he had been flying around with Chipper and they even had their usual perch squabble before bedtime. I had no idea that there was anything wrong with him.
I tried all day yesterday to get him to eat and drink, but he was just so listless and not interested in moving around at all.
Last night we put Colin in Penny’s cage because the boys were bullying him. I was very aware that the end was near and I did not want him to die alone.
This morning I had a terrible sense of foreboding when I pulled up the cover, and found that he had passed away in the night. I put him in the travel cage, wrapped in a large tissue and told him how sorry I was.
It was January 5th 2020 that we rehomed Colin, along with Daisy, Billy and Iris. They were advertised as Free to a good home. They had been kept in a tiny cage that was the size of a travel cage. The owner had cats and the cats had knocked over their cage at least once as they were kept on a coffee table.
I had not rehomed so many at once before, but I felt compelled to do so as I worried what would happen to them if I didn’t.
Colin was the partner of Daisy, they would feed and preen each other, I hope she will be okay without him. As I type this she is sitting with George and they are both preening.
Looking through all of my photos, I realised that Colin is never in a photo on his own, he is always with large groups of friends. See if you can spot Colin in the flock. He was a beautiful grey boy, and will be forever missed by us all.
As is the usual regime, Colin will be cremated individually and I will keep his ashes with me.
