On the last forum I made a thread asking about bird safe perches, someone kindly linked Barries website (which is fantastic btw) and I selected a crab apple branch for a perch.
Anyway so I've stipped the bark off completely, got rid of the sharp knots and sanded it down as well as I can.
The next plan is to spray it with Johnson's Clean'n'safe disinfectant.
Is there anything else I need to do with it? Or anything else I need to check for to make sure it's 100% safe?
Cheers.

They do recommend baking them in the oven , sadly my oven will not get a 12 foot willow branch in no matter how hard i try.
I always keep two avian disinfectants in stock , F10SC & Vanodine V18 , both can be bought online.
I also grow my own willow from cuttings.
With willow i always leave the bark , this is the part of the branch the birds enjoy, mine go manic in their quest to debark the branch.
First hot water and Vanodine V18 are used to wash the branch after the leaves have been removed of course.
This is allowed to dry in the garage away from the path of the wild birds
Once dried it is sprayed with a solution of F10SC, once this dries the branch is disinfected.
SC means super concentrated , this bottle will last for months
Vanodine V18 is ideal for removinf stubborn bird droppings

i just remove the leaves or buds ,boil them in hot water (i use the bath for this). Dry them of then spray them with F10(or any general avian disinfectant). . The bark is the best bit, it comforts the birds feet and they love shredding it .
