I have started putting a little ACD in the boys water, I suspect much less than I should, using a syringe to transfer it to their drinking water, however they both had runny poos the next day and I wondered if they could have got it from the vinegar ? They have both started moulting and obviously that does upset their metabolism.
I have some Guardian Angel arriving today (thank you Scarlett’s Parrots for very quick dispatch !) and will use that today. Actually I have a question about that too what dosage to what amount of water ? I loved the comment on the website that a pinch is ok, don’t they realise people have different sized fingers ?!

I've wondered myself how much ACV to use. I think I've erred on the side of caution - I use 2.5ml per 500ml of water. Never had issues with runny poos (none relating to ACV, anyway).
I use GA sprinkled on the budgie's food, I haven't tried diluting it in their water. I'd describe the quantity as "a very light dusting".

Thanks Lozhinge that’s really helpful. I am definitely using less ACV than you so the runny poos are probably due to moulting, they have Haiths tonic seed in their cage today and hopefully they will decide that today is the day to try it, if not I will sprinkle a little on their seed another day (they always have the usual Haiths anyway) Is it ok to keep the tonic seed in the cage when I sprinkle some GA on their food ? I am presuming they are ok to use together although maybe not in the same pot.
edited to say I just looked at your photo and blimey that a lot of budgies on one twirly !!

More experienced folk than I might have an opinion on Tonic Seed and GA together but I for one would not have an issue with it n the short term. And I cheated, there's actually two twirlies there

GA is recommended for use on ill or stressed birds, rather than as a daily supplement. Even a moult I wouldn’t classify as stress unless it is a particularly bad one. Also, what is your reason for using the ACV? Are you wanting to treat for something specific or simply as a precautionary, everyday additive? If as an every day preventative three drops into 100mls of water is considered a precautionary dose with the ability to increase this as and when you may need to.
I don’t know anything about the tonic seed although the blurb suggests it may be useful for breeders or show enthusiasts. It contains three lots of oil seed (linseed, rape and niger) and then added aniseed oil. Oil seeds should make up no more than 5% of a seed mix for a household budgie, so I’d be asking the question there. Obesity is one of the biggest health issues found in pet budgies.

Thank for your reply. The ACV I wanted to use as a precautionary, but will hold off on the GA. until it is needed. The tonic seed would only be fed twice a week and not as the main food, but right now the boys are still ignoring it, I am going to put a little on top of their usual seed today and see how that goes.

That all sounds good. The trouble with giving boosting supplements all the time is that their bodies can become lazy and not have the chance to build up a good immune system on its own, then when the bird does become ill you have nothing extra to help fight the illness.

Morning (or afternoon, evening) everyone. For a couple of days Sam has had watery poos as well as normal ones, over the last week they have been out of the cage most days as I figured it was about time I started trusting their instincts re flying around my living room…it’s actually been quite fun, when one decides to take off the other gets a little frightened and takes off too, sometimes it’s like jets zooming around ! Anyhoo, Sam seems quite happy, he is eating well and drinking as normal, but concerned Mum has just made up some Guardian Angel and put it in their water tray. Olly has access to it as well but i can’t separate them as the stress involved would upset me let alone them. I did the level teaspoon to 150ml and luckily their drinking tray is green so they can’t see the yellow water ! I just wanted to check I am doing the right thing, you lovely lot must know by now that I am a worrier ! Olly’s poos are normal. Right now they are near the cage door looking at me but I am not keen on letting them out in case Sam maybe have picked up a lurgy from somewhere in the living room, no idea what but you never know ! Edited to add that neither of them have been keen on fresh food for a week or so.
another edit to say that since my post above Sam has pooped and the first was more black than black and white but the one next to it was normal, apart from being a little sleepy earlier he has been fine. Both have eaten but neither had a drink yet..well they wouldn’t when I want them too would they ?! I know I panic about them, with the boys it stems from loosing my last budgie at a young age years ago, but I am like any pet owner I guess 🙂
