Joey is my first budgie. My granddaughter went with me to buy my budgie and onto the top of his cage. I wanted a malle as I heard they are more likely to talk so chose a baby with some blue markings above his beak. The blue has faded to almost nothing so I don't know if I have a male or female. I would appreciate any help also with taming joey. He plays happily in his cage but she's away if I go near the cage sort of runs along the perch to opposite side or climbs up the cage. I make sure the windows are closed and leave the cage door open with millet on the side to remote him out. He does come out and climbs around on the outside of the cage and has flown a few times. He even landed on my jumper then climbed up it once. I sat still and didn't try to touch him as I didn't want to frighten him after a couple of minutes he flew off onto the top of his cage. How can I get him to trust me? He climbs back into his cage when he wants too. Would love him to sit on my shoulder etc.

Usualy you dont let ur budgie out of its cage before you start to tame it. If you can get it inside the cage again, then try hold some millet near him or some food they like. Then you can start to say sounds or whistle some tunes, so it can know you by that. Also sit near the cage each day may times and talk to ur budgie and keep feeding it with millet. Eventualy you can try and shorten the millet so its very near your fingers. Then you can start open the cage and hold ur finger inside. It might get spooked but try slowly get it to step up with slow moves toward it. Just dont put ur finger above it head.,.keep ur hand low.
