One of my new girls, probably Sandy, seems to leave large droppings. Well - some are large, some are enormous. The size of a garden pea or even half a broad bean. I had at one point wondered whether Chocobo had somehow snuck in to the girls cage. The droppings are in most respects normal-looking for a budgie on a temporary seed diet. Very dark with a white cap, well-formed. But big. The new girls are ignoring any veggies I supply, as is normal for budgies going through my quarantine process. I add AviPro to their water to compensate. Two days per week they get ivermectin (S76) added to the water. All normal practice for my new birbs. Is there any significance to the large droppings? I see no indication that she might be constipated. Both girls are active, eating & drinking and generally being normal budgies.

Are the large droppings throughout the day or just mostly in the morning and then more normal size the rest of the day?

A great question, TPM. I believe the size tails off as the day progresses, based upon today's observations. Sounds like someone can't be bothered to "get up in the night"?

Yes, I've read other postings here about budgies who drop 'poop bombs' in the morning and then have more normal sized poops the rest of the day like they are not going during the night.

Large droppings in hens can sometimes happen before they lay an egg. I'm not sure that would be the case for your newbies though. Sorry that's probably not helpful

Is she tame? Is it possible to hold her and clean her vent?

hi all one of my budgies is having trouble pooing she seems to have it stuck half in and half out is there anything i can give her to help her please Has her diet changed recently? For immediate help, hold her gently and using warm water and cotton balls wash off her vent until the feathers look clean. Make sure she is eating properly, foods with a high water content may help her, such as celery, iceberg lettuce, cucumber and zucchini. Long term, if this is an on-going issue there is most likely a health issue that is needing professional help.
