After losing Perry & being left with Moriarty & Lennie, I decided to increase the flock as I thought neither one of them would cope too well if left alone. It turned into a fraught & bittersweet experience as the day I got the two new boys, Lennie became unwell & three days later, died. This left me with Moriarty on his own (not knowing he had potential new friends) & the two new boys in quarantine in my bedroom. The novelty of being on his own wore off pretty quickly for Moriarty & I have spent the majority of my time with him, leaving the new boys largely to their own devices. Quarantine time was up this week, so two days ago, I wheeled in the new boys. Moriarty (after initial shock) is over the moon to have feathery company again. I have not yet let the new boys out so all the chat has been through bars. Names are *almost* decided on for the new boys, but here they are:

So sorry to hear about Lennie. Happy to hear about the two new guys and waiting for the names. You, Moriarty and the newbies will have so much fun!

I did wonder how Moriarty, and you, were getting on, so that’s lovely news that you both have new feathered friends to talk to. Morry definitely looks like he can’t wait to meet the new boys. Looking forward to finding out what gems you have decided on for names this time.

Oh, they are just so gorgeous sweetpea. I can’t wait to hear more about them and how Moriarty loves his new companions. I am so sorry you lost Lennie but it’s like you were doing exactly the right thing and having the two new boys was what you knew Moriarty would need. I love the photos of them getting to say hello. Fly high Lennie in the knowledge Moriarty isn’t alone.

Moriarty looks very pleased to see his new friends. They are beautiful. I'm so sorry that you lost Lennie and that he's not here to meet them too.

We've had quite a hairy day as I let the new boys out. The end result is that this evening, the green one is back in the quarantine cage (he spent ages trying to work out how to get back in so I hadn't the heart to suggest he be elsewhere!) The blue one is in Lennie's cage (he wandered in there at an appropriate time to lock him in). Moriarty is in his usual home. I suspect relations will be similar to the Moriarty, Perry & Lennie triangle. There was some chest bumping going on, though I think mostly instigated by the blue one. The new boys were previously in a home with cats, so were pretty nervous. Because of that & the need to be with M, I didn't spend any time trying to tame them during quarantine. They had also not been let out in their previous home because of the cats, so I had no idea of their flying ability, but they seemed pretty good. Hopefully tomorrow the green one will join the blue in Lennie's cage & I can retire the quarantine cage. But who knows what will happen!

I'm glad everyone ended up in a cage for bedtime. Hopefully they will work out better sleeping arrangements soon. It must have been very exciting for the new boys coming out to fly.

This morning, I have let M & blue out first, though this means (so far) they are both in Lennie's cage. Plan is for them to get their major flirting out of the way before getting green in the mix... So stressful! I can't help but hanker after the cosy familiarity of M,P&L... EDIT: Had forgotten how noisy 3 birds can be...!

It occurs to me that I don't know how noisy three budgies can be because I've never actually had three budgies

All pretty calm here but that's because green has not come out yet. I've pegged his beloved spinach by the open door but though he's eaten some, he's declined coming out. The other two have gone over to him a few times. Blue is currently eating the seed in M's cage. Can't plan anything...

We are all locked up in separate cages again, same as last night. M is currently having his evening "wiggle" with his mirror... I'll be out for most of tomorrow so doubt there will be any progress on the getting-rid-of-quarantine-cage front.

Budgies are so predictable.
You can always predict that they will do the unexpected.
