I noticed our female budgie has a black nail on her right foot. She has pink feets and white nails. So its not like the budgies with gray feets and dark nails. Its only this one nail that is black.
She had it for some days now and we dont know how or when or where she got it from.
Its like half of her nail is black from the tip of the nail and up to her toe. Then on the one side of the nail it looks black and on the other side of the nail it looks less black. Could be the blood vesel in th enail that was damaged somehow on one of the playgrounds or from the dreamcatchers she climps in.
It dosent gets worse and she is not in pain by the looks of it. She climp and jumps around fine on the playgrounds. We do trim her nails when they gets long anough, but it dosent look like it grows that much.
I also have a black nail on my toe from a accident and it dosent grow so much anymore.
Have anyone seen something like this before ? We do keep an eye on her toe but we can just trim or cut the black toe since it will prolly bleed alot.
It looks like its only on the top of the nail like some nail polish
This is the best enhanced pictures i could take while she was sitting still.

It could be blood. I wouldn't trim it, no need unless it's excessively long anyway. You have to be very careful not to cut to the quick (where the blood is)

Just looks like the blood vessel to me (I definitely wouldn’t be trimming it) but possibly she has knocked it or caught it to give the old blood look. If the blood supply has been interrupted the claw may drop out. Keep a good eye on the toe and the rest of the foot as well.

I see...Its just strange that the blood vesel is only black on the one side and it looks less black on the other side. She is very acrobatic sometimes. So its possible she had a accident we dident see. But im keeping an eye out for her toe and nail each day. It dosent gets worse. And we wont trim it unless it becomes reeealy long and sharp. It looks like she has long feets..like goofey size feets

Same as us, it depends on whether the nail bed (the growth point) has been damaged or not. Since the claw doesn’t look damaged at all, I don’t think she will lose it but it may happen. Without knowing what the cause is though it is hard to predict.
