Elvis is alot better this morning. I took their food out the cage last night to avoid any more bleeding if he tried to eat. Ive soaked some seed ready for their breakfast. He is climbing around the cage using his beak (now and again) and he has been preening and rubbing his head on things so I hope (fingers crossed) the bleeding has stopped for good. He has a trimmed beak now. What an ordeal this has been. Im cleaning the cage today so might look for the tip of the beak. Feels a bit like my kids loosing their first tooth ha ha ha

It is a very good thing that he is using his beak to get around again. We can't have an Elvis being less than his perfect best!

not really the best pic, they were chasing each other around the rope! as you may be able to see the end is completely off, i hope the same thing doesnt happen to tinkerbelle, her beak has flakes on it, they have 2 cuttle fish and 2 blocks to chew on so fingers crossed hers will just file down as normal! major ordeal over! (fingers crossed!) they are allowed out tomorrow!

Aww, Elvis is looking much better than yesterday. Poor little chap, but it sounds like you did a good job of managing the situation.

I was a nervous wreck ha ha he is sat chattering away, he is eating his soaked food, pooping normally and generally back to being elvis. Feel a bit guilty not letting them out today but I want to make sure there are definitely not gonna be any more bleeds!

Elvis is looking too cute to be an Elvis, at the moment. I am sure as he matures and develops his cockiness will increase. Pun intended.

The video of beak trimming is excellent - thanks! I think Joey needs his doing as it has quite a long thin curved point at the end. However, he is not in the best of moods - his friend Violet died a few weeks ago, and then we went on hols for 2 weeks so a friend looked after him. He's usually really chirpy and sings/tweets etc continually but since she went he's been very quiet. He only returned to us yesterday and today has been singing in his cage in the garden (as it was mild weather) so is improving. I think to carry out the beak trimming now would add to his problems. He's eating and climbing ok and I must admit it's the first time I've noticed it's longish. Also I think I may need to get him another friend as he's such a sociable little chap. I knew there would be some advice on here! Thanks.

Update! In the end I took Joey to the vet who clipped his beak. I'm glad I did as it did bleed a bit - which I would have felt awful about. The vet sorted it and commented how well behaved he was! Good news too, he has perked up a bit and a new rescue budgie will hopefully be collected on Saturday. With quarantine period of course - though they will be able to hear each other from their separate rooms!
