Just went to give my babies their goodnight kisses (from outside the cage) when I noticed Mango had this little bump on his cere. Its almost pimple like in shape but doesn't seem too dry or crusty. He doesn't scratch or lick at it from what I've seen nor has he shown any other unusual behaviors. Cute baby was even nice enough to lean down for me to take this picture up close. He is around 2 years old and i believe a female budgie actually so I have seen some posts from owners and vets usually relating similar cases to natural color changes in ceres or hormones or just bruising. Usually it is a little discolored there from time to time but the bump caught me off guard this time as usually the shape of the cere remains the same. What do ya'll think it could be? Getting to the vet is hard so I want to make sure its worth the long trip but also not wait too late on something that could be dangerous. Were it not for work I definitely would have an easier time getting there for this kind of stuff.

It's really hard to tell that it's a bump in the photo as it just looks like discolouration, perhaps from being a hen and going into breeding condition?

It could be the start of coming into breeding condition but I would expect a similar feature on the opposite side of the cere. This is based upon what I've seen with my hen(s). Still, what we expect of budgies and what we get are usually two different things. I would be hoping to see similar changes on the opposite side in the next couple of days.

Mango has always had some kind of discoloration around that part of the cere on both sides and also has a similar discolored spot on the opposite side of the bump it just isn't a bump like the one shown in the picture. I will keep an eye on it the next few days though, I really hope its just natural changes, don't want my baby to have through go through anything too stressful
