So I visited a friend at the weekend who was budgie sitting while a relative is in hospital. This very cute little (but completely untame) 8 year old budgie. His cage had lots of very narrow plastic perches so I dug through the box at home and pulled out a nice wooden v shaped perch to donate to him. When I dropped in I fitted the new perch by his mirror explaining why it might help his feet etc. The little budgie was, it's fair to say, not impressed 😂
He clung to the side of the cage for a good half hour till I left. Then five hours later he was sitting on the cuttle fish. It's now Tuesday and he's still not tried the new perch out 🤣. I'm seriously impressed at his stubbornness. I've advised breaking out the millet....

All the new stuff must be ignored for at least two weeks until it loses it's evilness.

Again with the Pippin stories, but I had this with him. Although not for as long because the evil proper wood was everywhere and he had to touch it to get to the food bowl.

In my house any (food-grade) dyed wooden toys are not deemed safe until all the colour has been washed out of them. So much for brightening up the cage.

Quite right, blueelephant. And here, successive cleanings with the jet wash has meant that all the rungs on the brightly coloured ladders are available now for budgie use.

Randolph Carter ignored all new perches in his cage for his whole month in quarantine month.

Randolph Carter ignored all new perches in his cage for his whole month in quarantine month. Perry Rhodan refused to use the identical second perch in his quarantine month. It was literally the same as the one he used. Budgie logic.

Dexter will have nothing to do with his new green water pot. I've now ordered some more white ones which will hopefully be the same as the old ones.

So, nearly a week later the new status quo is to sit on an old perch, near the new perch...
At least he's stopped running away from it 😂.

That's progress. Another week, maybe two, and he'll be on the new perch

My old pair refused to even go into the corner near the new swing I put in for them-even when I put a treat the other side of it to tempt them on. I took it out after 2 months. They won on that. I've replaced it with a half coconut which strangely they love.
I even had the younger ones visiting them and showing them how unscary it was, but they weren't to be convinced.
