Just my personal opinion - you may be frustrating the poor girl as she's thinking there are other budgies around and since budgies are flock birds, she'll want to join them. Try playing 'nature' or 'forest' sounds and see how she reacts. My two love the sound of people talking so I leave talk radio on for them and they just sing and chirp away.

That makes sense! That's what I was worried about too. I tried some forest sounds as you suggested and she seemed to like that a bit more than the music!

To add to TPM’s comment regarding budgie sounds which I agree with, hens are generally quieter anyway - less inclined to “chat” to just anything like the boys are so don’t worry too much about that.

I just wanted to share an update! My little bud is doing well, she's settling into her new home and we're making progress every day. She's now comfortable enough with my hand being near her that she's started to accept millet, she's started to get more active exploring her cage and chewing on her natural branch perches though she still seems unsure what to do with her toys. I also discovered she loves broccoli! She seems happy

Broccoli is good, chewing on perches is good, as for toys I think only my youngsters have played with toys - mature hens, definitely below their levels of dignity. (But mine haven’t been only birds, either. That may make a difference.)

Thanks everyone! I though of another couple of questions I was meaning to ask!
1. She makes a cute and quiet little sound that's kind of like a single beak click combined with a small puff of air. There's no chirp or vocalization with it, its just a soft little click/puff almost like it comes out of her nose. She makes the single click/puff almost as a greeting but I can't decide what it means.
2. Is there a general consensus here on whether getting a mirror for her cage is a good idea or not? I've seen so much conflicting info between it being an "essential" for a single budgie or big "no". Her cage is in my office and I work at home, so she has my company most of the day.

If she seems happy and contented with your company then why upset the status quo? The boys are the ones most likely to overplay a mirror; I do think it would be unlikely for your hen to do so since she isn’t a toy player anyway.

Fair point Hezz! If you can believe it, I caught her cautiously playing with one of her toys yesterday, I didn't think she'd ever go for it. She's also taken to flying just over my head and back to her cage as a kind of game the last few days. I hope that's a good sign it's very cute.

Ah, you’re being buzzed! I think they do it just to practise their flying skills, not so much to scare the pants off unsuspecting owners.

Oh yes, this is an excellent game that can develop to flying straight at your face and swerving at the last minute (or on occasion crashing into it and landing on your nose or glasses...)
It's like a game of chicken, who ducks first, you or them 😂

Hahaha! They really are just way too cute. She seems to be having a lot of fun with it and I can't say I mind too much every bit of her goofy sassy personality that comes out the more she settles in just warms my heart.
