We all know that some budgies are immediately drawn to plastic toys despite having much better ones in their cage. I get all the boys stuff from Karen and Darran at the Natural Bird company and they are great, the boys love them and Karen puts up with my rambling emails ! However I would like to look into getting some plastic toys to use occasionally in the cage as when I got the boys they fell in love with a couple I was given but which I replaced with other stuff after a few weeks. Do any of you have recommendations as to where I can get budgie safe plastic toys, and does such a thing actually exist ?! They wouldn’t be in the cage permanently but on a rotation and they would also have naturally made toys permanently in the cage. The boys are beginning a moult at the moment and have decided their mirror is their best friend, it’s an oval one set in plastic and the love it.

Max likes plastic cat balls to chuck. Most of the boys will bash and sing to a plastic chain link..

Acrylic is better to use in a bird cage than plastic. It also makes a satisfying clink when knocked together Plastic can become brittle and break with sharp ends over time so do watch that if you get anything. As Marianne has said cat balls are light enough for budgies to throw around, and plastic beads can brighten up the cage, just not tiny ones that they might inadvertently swallow if one were to come loose. Thread them onto paper rope, sisal or jute string or thin leather strips. A stainless steel bell on the end of anything is usually a good enticer.

Thanks Hezz, I am sure the boys would be happy for me use paper rope as it seems to be one of their favourite things to chew !
