It occurred to me recently that my Finkleberry doesn't rest on one leg. When he turns his head to sleep, he is on two feet. Just yesterday was the first time he was on one leg & I noticed the same this morning. Made me wonder if the change indicated a health problem (either for worse... or better - the jury's definitely out!) I read somewhere that a budgie who sleeps with his head back means they are ill, but this made no sense to me as all my budgies have stuffed a beak under their wing to sleep ! Mind you the boys sleep on top of a swing…naturally where else would they sleep…and on that they just ‘lay’. I'm looking forward to Karen at the Natural Bird Co sending me a full perch, that will go width wise in the cage, that they can sleep on as they don’t half squabble at night on the top of the swing. They are being spoilt this time as Karen and Darren are making a leather play ‘net’ and a raft swing for them. The original swing will then be one of those projects I reckon I can do but then put in a bag somewhere when I realise I can’t ! Sorry, went completely off topic there… 😆 Yeah, that doesn't really make sense that sleeping with their head back means they are ill. I guess because they are such individuals it's important to observe what their (healthy) behaviour is, so any change from that could mean potential illness. Sleeping on top of a swing will certainly require a special position for balance! I hope Karen & Darren realise how much peace their creations bring to cages around the country!

Agree with your thinking there before, sweetpea - going from two-legged sleeping to one is a change for the good whereas going from one to two may mean problems, unless, of course, there are foot/leg problems. Sorry, Finkleberry for calling you a fatty!! 😔 Please, may I be forgiven?? Too many “F’s”, I got my “F” birds confused, or rather Sweetpea’s “F” boys.

We think it is because the swing, it has a wood bar across the top that they roost on, is the highest bit in the cage but Karen said she had never seen budgies do it before 😆 Hopefully the new perch will sort that out, they are so busy it is still a six week turn around so I am more impatient than the boys as they have no idea what will happen !! Karen once explained what had happened to Darran and it is amazing he is still alive frankly.

My Cagney & Bezukhov used to sit on top of their swings but I think that habit developed because Cagney wanted to share a swing with his beloved Atilla but she wanted space to spread herself out, so he compromised by perching on the swing above her.
