Question out of curiosity.... do any of you have a (healthy) bird that does NOT rest on one leg?

Yes, lots of them. I think they all rest on one or two legs, although some of them seem to prefer one way over the other.

Mine seem to vary. They also vary in how well they tuck the lifted foot into their pocket. Gwen nearly always forgets to actually cover hers, so she just stands there with this little pink ball partway up her side.

Silly Gwen will have a cold foot!

It occurred to me recently that my Finkleberry doesn't rest on one leg. When he turns his head to sleep, he is on two feet. Just yesterday was the first time he was on one leg & I noticed the same this morning. Made me wonder if the change indicated a health problem (either for worse... or better - the jury's definitely out!)

I think they just experiment with what feels comfortable and comfy might be different on different days.

Lots of mine don't, but if you mean sleeping then I am not sure cos they're covered up.
Jojo and Penny never ever rested on one leg.

Tweetie Pie naps on one leg but Buddy naps on two. I assume that's Tweetie Pie in your avatar?! What a perfect example.

Of my three now only Piper has fully normal feet and I do think this can play a part as well. Spyro has one back toe that has bent the wrong way and comes up between his two front toes so balance on that foot isn’t so great + he is 10 years old and getting a bit shuffle-y. Bunji has one forward-facing toe that must have been dislocated at some time and juts out at a 45 o angle. (It may have been when he had an altercation with a grey goshawk while in the aviary.) Has fatty Finkleberry lost some weight? That may have something to do with it as well.

Obviously if they have a foot or leg problem that may impact on it. In some ways, from sitting on one leg to NOT sitting on one leg could indicate a potential problem, but perhaps if it's the other way around it may indicate a change but not a bad one. You are getting Finkleberry mixed up with Fatty Frediano. Frediano is often on one leg, but with his weight, his feet will welcome those breaks! Finkleberry was only 32g when I got him. He's now 38g.

Made me wonder if the change indicated a health problem (either for worse... or better - the jury's definitely out!) I read somewhere that a budgie who sleeps with his head back means they are ill, but this made no sense to me as all my budgies have stuffed a beak under their wing to sleep ! Mind you the boys sleep on top of a swing…naturally where else would they sleep…and on that they just ‘lay’. I'm looking forward to Karen at the Natural Bird Co sending me a full perch, that will go width wise in the cage, that they can sleep on as they don’t half squabble at night on the top of the swing. They are being spoilt this time as Karen and Darren are making a leather play ‘net’ and a raft swing for them. The original swing will then be one of those projects I reckon I can do but then put in a bag somewhere when I realise I can’t ! Sorry, went completely off topic there… 😆
