I’m so sorry to be reading this loz , from the video it does seem he’s had a neurological episode possibly stroke. Feel for you, it’s rough loosing them so suddenly like that but at least he didn’t linger 🙁 Fly high beautiful Berek

Oh handsome Berek, we will all miss you on the forum. It hardly seems any time since you came home with your Dad. Fly high and eat millet to your heart’s content with Patch, Denny and Sandy. loz I am so very sorry. It was such a sudden episode but I guess that is how a stroke often happens and only in hindsight may you find potential signs, but then they could still be completely unrelated. The weight loss may have been a completely different issue to whatever neurological event Berek suffered today. It probably isn’t any comfort right now to know he didn’t suffer for long as I know how distressing it must have been watching his deterioration. Hope you and the flock are looking after each other. I’ve got you in my thoughts.

I am sorry to read that Berek has passed away, and so quickly. It sounds like he was a lovely soul.
Rest in Peace little man.

I think I need some opinions as I don't know which course of action to take.
Berek & Loric's former owner, a nice lady named Jackie, has contacted me perhaps once a month since I took them in to ask how they are. I know she was somewhat conflicted about giving them up, she clearly cared for the budgies. I might hear from Jackie in the next two-three weeks - or perhaps not. She might not be in touch again, I have no way to know. Should I contact Jackie to tell her of dear Berek's passing? Or wait and see if she contacts me? I can see the pros and cons of either approach but I cannot come down on one way or the other. I know if I do it now, I will get upset but it is selfish to use that as an excuse to delay or avoid the issue.
Opinions are welcome and I know that no one has "the answer". Probably not, anyway.

I'd tell her now. When any of the rehomed budgies I have had has passed. If I had that owners details still, I contacted them and let them know as soon as I could. She will surely be upset at his passing but it's not your fault loz.

Thanks Marianne. I had pretty much made up my mind to inform Jackie immediately upon posting on the matter and I have just messaged her. I feel rotten introducing this sadness into her life but I guess it is for the best.

I wish they could live forever, our little friends. We're all better for having known Berek, however short the time was. Another tiny ball of sunshine.

Think of it this way, Loric was not left on his own after Berek passed. Loric has made lots of new friends.

Loric is very good friends with Mr Hibs and he is sociable with the others, too. Oddly, Chocobo treats him very respectfully. Loric and Berek were very big personalities in the Flock. I guess losing a budgie never gets any easier.
