I'm not referring to Prothall's political views (I believe that they lean towards libertarianism) but the way he carries his right wing at rest. You can clearly see that he is holding his right wing slightly away from his body whereas the left is held normally. I noticed this the first couple of days after I brought him home - Feb this year. I looked for signs that he had injured himself but I've never seen any. He flies willingly and often, he's in fact one of my most active fliers. Whatever is going one doesn't seem to bother him at all. By chance today, I observed Prothall fly directly towards me, which allowed the opportunity to observe both wings in action in a comparative situation. There was definitely a slightly different action, right to left, when in straight flight (ie not manoeuvring). I can't say I'm worried at this stage. Prothall may have been born with this condition or it may have been the result of an injury, imperfectly healed. There may be something more sinister at play but as I say, Prothall seems fine in himself. Has anyone seen similar?

To me he looks fine. He looks like the small feather, I believe which is called a b*stard wing (I've censored myself!), is out of place slightly.

Not my image, found using a google search, someone had posted it on reddit so I do not know who owns it.

Could be an old injury that hasn’t healed properly, I had one that dislocated her wing years ago, the vet manipulated it back but she was never quite the same, she didn’t fly well after. Other thing to just check is that he hasn’t got a feather cyst underneath. If he’s flying well he can’t be feeling too much pain or discomfort

I will check for a cyst when I can - Prothall is my least easiest bird to catch!

How is Prothall looking today loz? Prothall is fine. Ariella. Thank you! He is a very healthy boy and one of my most active birbs. Yesterday was an odd one for him, he socialised for most of the day instead of spending most of it on his own (or with Mhoram). Most unusual! I've been trying to look at him more closely. I'm mulling over whether his b-wing is the cause of him holding his wing out away from his body (Marianne started me on that train of thought) but I'll need to capture him to see whether there is anything under the wing that's at fault.

Good luck with the catching and examination. I decided to catch Otis today to pop him in the spare cage for some respite and observation. He’s still sleepy but is eating and moving about well. I caught Henry pecking him on the head when he was at the seed trough so felt it better for him to have a safe space to rest in. Hoping he picks up in a couple of days with the GA.

I hope Otis picks up too. He needs not to have to keep one eye open for Henry so a good call to give him a safe, peaceful place to recuperate. I'm watching Herman closely for similar reasons and had to isolate him a couple of days ago. He seems better able to deal with nonsense today (hard look at Loric.) I'm waiting for an opportunity to nab Prothall without involving fourteen other budgies. Not easy.

Otis has been moving about, eating and looking pretty well since I moved him so I am hopeful he just needs a few days to rest up. I’m glad Herman is doing better after his few days without Loric’s attention. Otis usually holds his own without any problem but feeling a bit under the weather I could see he was much more diminutive than usual.
Goodness knows how you catch any of yours without “help”.

When I want to catch one, what I do is wait for them to go into a cage and then shut them in and try and shoo the others out

I had to dissuade Squeak from being a nuisance to Herman. She took a lot of persuading. Prothall is fine as always and still oddly sociable at the moment.
