Hello! I'm new here but not new to budgie ownership which is why I'm confused. Brought home a new budgie friend today named Buster after deciding our boy Bow must need a friend as our old boy Clyde passed the other day. Buster seemed to be getting comfortable and then once night came he went to the bottom corner of the cage and stayed there. I don't even know if he ate or drank anything since I brought him home. None of our birds ever acted like this and they were all young like him. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Do you know just how old he is? It may simply be a case of him wanting to go back to the nest for sleeping, in which case he will most likely stop after a couple of nights, especially if he is perching fine during the day. Meantime give him a little place to retreat to - a tissue box or similar on the floor of the cage with a budgie-size “door” cut out at floor level so that he feels safe and secure at night. Generally once the young one have left the nest and are perching they are perfectly happy sleeping on a perch and don’t go back down to the floor for sleeping but I’m sure there are those who are still wanting the warmth and safety of a nest box.

Thunder wanted to sit on the bottom of the cage at first. Within a day or two, he was climbing up the sides and trying out the perches.
