Haha, that was hilarious. I wonder if that really is the last one? They appeared on Attenborough's 'Life of Birds' and the numbers were dwindling then if I remember correctly. Infact I've just checked wiki and it looks like there were only 61 Kakapo's left back in 1998, such a shame they've almost died out.

How would they find food or water. How would they escape predators (or in the case of the budgie a human foot step).

It's been a while since I watched it so I may be wrong, but I'm sure evolved that way because there were no land based predators on New Zealand so they didn't really need flight. That's until the humans arrived and brought cats and stuff with them, which then pushed them higher up and basically caused them to become practically extinct.
They are certainly an interesting looking bird though!

I suppose nature has it's reasons though, such a shame it's becoming extinct. But hopefully, a animal conservation group might save it. Who knows .

How would they escape predators (or in the case of the budgie a human foot step). They do have wings they just don't fly, look at ostrich, emu, penguins etc, they don't fly. The reason the Kakapo is so critically endangered is 100% due to humans, we put the predators on that island that have been killing them off, if we had left them alone they would no doubt still have a thiriving population.

A little bit of trivia for you guys : New Zealand's largest native land-dwelling mammal is a bat! Not sure about the Kakapo, but cats and stoats are the poor kiwis biggest problem. They also have the only alpine parrot in the world, the Kea

Is the Kea the one that eats organs out of sheep?

Is the Kea the one that eats organs out of sheep? Keas are cool. They come and nick things out of your tent while your camping at night. Naughty things.

I bet they could work a zipper. Probably. If they were ever wearing pants with a fly.
