Hi all, new to the forum, looks like a cool place. I picked up 3 young budgies yesterday and was told this one was a male. I have second thoughts on that and would like your opinions. Thank you!

I included a pic when I made the post so not sure what happened. Glad it finally appeared, lol.

The pic waited to appear after I'd posted, to make me look even less with it than usual The pictured budgie looks clear-pied to me, which will make sexing him or her harder than usual or perhaps impossible from a purely visual standpoint. I think. I am worse at mutations than I am at spotting pictures in posts!

In the store, I thought this was a female then the associate told me it was a male. So now I'm second guessing myself but I'm still leaning towards female.

What's her colour scheme? She's looks dark-eyed clear to me in the pic but it's possible her markings, if she has them, haven't shown up in the pic due to lighting conditions. How old is she?

Here are a couple more pics. Not sure how old she is but she's still young.

I don't know what mutation she is but I'm going to guess she's a girl:) I'm terrible at this game

Looking like a male to me from these photos, typical of a recessive pied.

Being slender is more about being young than being a hen I would have thought. I’ve not come across it being an indicator of gender one way or the other.
There is a slight whitening around the nares in one photo, yes, but not enough in my opinion. There is the overall uniformity of colour, the pale pink-purple of the recessive pied male and the opalescence that is also an indicator. Enlarge the last photo and check the difference between the two birds’ ceres. The bird on the right has a typical hen’s cere colouring.

Thanks so much for your explanation, makes sense
