The fabulous little Toby came to us just after lockdown from a neighbour on our street. Circumstances had changed, and his owner could no longer keep him so we offered a temporary home while other options were explored. After four weeks in quarantine, Toby met Barney and Finlay "to see how they got on". The rest is history. Toby was a talented but sweethearted little boy. Speaking both German and English before he came to us but only conversing in budgie once he met the gang. He was, a bird that knew his own mind shall we say. He took no crap from anyone, ever. Not even Finlay, who he quickly got the measure of, and despite her henny ways never ever bothered him. When Finlay passed away, Toby looked after Barney wholeheartedly. The two of them have been very much a pair ever since. The great bromance. Toby deciding stuff and Barney doing as he was told. They can only really be described as the best little buddies. Always content with each others company, providing Barney waited his turn with any tasty treats.
Toby has stoically dealt with a AGY diagnosis for over 18 months now, a slow gradual decline. It's a cruel disease. Barney was the absolute best little friend he could have hoped for, preening snuggling and singing to his little friend. We could see though how much you were struggling and the time had definitely come to say goodbye.
Toby you can't possibly know how much we all, but especially Barney, miss you. He's lost without you mate. The last few days have been tough, especially for Barney. We are so happy to have had you fall into our lives and brighten our days with your straight talking taking of no rubbish whatsoever. The Playmobil fairy we sellotaped to the wall to stop Finlay chewing the paint misses you too. Never before has a fairy and a budgie had such in-depth and animated conversations.
Fly high little one. I hope you have that boundless energy for play again and have found someone good to throw sweetcorn at in rainbow bridge.
We miss you xxx
