For the past few days, our Budgies and Cockatiels have been more distant and jittery. Nobody sits on my hand or head for as long as they normally do. They take off and fly around the room because of things that never made them do it before. For example, me trying to wipe/spot-clean parts of the cages.
Here are the only changes I have noticed. I would appreciate any thoughts on whether these might be factors.
1. Sprite the Sun Conure has grown strong feathers and now she can fly across the room. If I set her on the play stand or on top of her cage, she will fly over to the Budgie or Cockatiel cage; whichever one I am closest to. The others do seem to be a little startled by this.
2. Pepper the Cockatiel has been singing/whistling, as usual, but sometimes faces Kona while doing it. I've also seen Pepper, uh, "being naughty" with the bunched-up fabric at the top of a curtain. I need to get them both DNA tested soon.

I'm tempted to respond, "It's just Springtime".
How old are the budgies & tiels?

I'm tempted to respond, "It's just Springtime". How old are the budgies & tiels? The Cockatiels were about two months old when we got them, according to the breeder, so they should be at least one-and-a-half years old now.
I've "rescued" the Budgies from pet stores. Griffin, Topaz, Basil, and Thunder should be at least one year old. Willow and Violet could be a couple months younger, although Willow appears to be older than Violet. Nimbus, our newest, is probably the youngest. His behavior is not unusual - he is still a cautious new bird.

I knew this would happen. I wrote this post, then the birds stopped acting weird! Pepper and Kona (Cockatiels) sat on my head and shoulders for a while. Willow combed my hair. Nimbus (newest Budgie) even ate a few bites of millet from a branch that I was holding. Until now, he would only eat millet if I set a branch down somewhere.

I think the answer is, It's Springtime 😊
Moods tend to permeate most of a close-knit flock. I see this with my horde. An unsettled budgie becomes an unsettled flock and even Chocobo picks up on this. So suddenly, there's a whole lot of birbs acting crazy.
Then it's back to notmal.
