I have recently built a small flock of Budgies. I have what I think is a nice selection of colors and they all have been adopted from two nearby animal shelters. I have 10 birds in a large cage and they are let out of the cages for several hours every day. This week three of the flock have ended up with stained faces. The other seven birds do not have these stains. Crystal my white female has the worst stains. I am not sure what it is that is causing the stains but would like to know if this should be a concern.

Welcome to the forum!
The stains might be caused by them rubbing their faces against certain perches or toys. One of mine, Violet, has a mostly white face. She also had a stain, but it was smaller and a lighter shade. I think it came from mahogany pods that I used in their bird toys.

Welcome
I also thought that it could be caused by her rubbing her face on something.
How are her droppings, appetite and general health?

Have you checked the cage for rust?
If you run a damp cloth over the branch perches (like the one she is sitting on), do they have stains on them that she could have rubbed her face on?
Sometimes it's hard to see stains on dark coloured perches.
One other thing, if she rubbed her cere on something sharp then it could have bled a little.

Have you an iodine block in the cage, it could be from that by the colour.

Thank you everyone for your advise. Since there are several members of the flock with similar but lesser staining I think it is from the perches (Mostly wild grape vine) or possibly the mineral block that is very close in color to the stains. In the future I think I will stick to white color mineral blocks.
