Does anyone know the fertility cycle of make budgies?
There is a lot of info about hens but not about cocks.

mine become fertile from the age of 6 months old and throughout the year come into breeding condition in 7 week cycles

Old thread, I know, but if a male comes into breeding condition in 7 week cycles, how much of that cycle is dedicated to jiggy-jiggying?
I am just wondering if there is any downtime & if so, how long is it?!

I think Jiggy-jiggy is all year round, whenever the mood takes them  , its just that this 7 weeks is the time he is fertile. |

I think Jiggy-jiggy is all year round, whenever the mood takes them , its just that this 7 weeks is the time he is fertile. Thanks skysmum, that makes sense. Sadly, I have no hidden female! I have enough on my hands with 4 boys.  I guess I was just wondering if they have times when they are less aggressive? Maybe that would tie in with fertile times? I am really just clutching at straws here as after the debacle of having my 4 all out at the same time (fighting) I have since only let them out in 2's or 3's. |

Ohhh its still going on then  , i see why your wondering about the cycle but think its been going on too long for it to be that. Its a shame isn't it, i would suggest a couple of females to dilute the situation but as you say you've got enough to contend with and if it did'nt work out could make an already bad situation even worse  . |
