Hi Ollybird and welcome to the forum! That is a gorgeous baby budgie you have! I'm sorry you had a bad experience with the breeder but glad you found this forum because you will get lots of help and info here. It's good to hear s/he has started eating a bit now. Marianne gave you great advice so keep up with her suggestions till you are confident he is eating well. Most budgies are quiet and reluctant to eat etc for a week or two after arriving in their new homes as it's a stressful time for them. I feel sure before long your budgie will be noisy and active and you'll hardly be able to keep up with him/her! It's fantastic that you got such a tame budgie, lots of people have to go through weeks of patient training to get their budgies to sit on their fingers.. Ruth

Hey Ollybird, don't worry too much about your little guy. Some budgies can take a week or two to settle in and start to show their true nature. It is good you have seen him eat now, but don't be worried that you don't see him drink - for starters they don't drink much anyway, and secondly drinking seems to be a vulnerable time for budgies, especially single budgies who don't have another to watch their back. Also, just because your budgie allows you to hold him/her now, don't presume things will stay that way. Many make that mistake, but really what is happening is that your budgie is scared, having been taken from all that is familiar to it and put into a strange cage in a strange house, with strange people and possibly strange food. Remember he is only a baby, and his world has been turned on its head. As Olly settles into his new home and gets used to his new people etc, he will relax enough for him to show his true nature, and part of that will be letting you know about the things he has allowed you to get a way with, but which he doesn't like. Good luck with your little Olly, he/she is a pretty little thing.

Other than what the others have said, put some music on, or the tv or radio and chat sweetly to him constantly. White background noise makes them feel safe, as silence indicates danger to a prey animal. Squint your eyes too when you're looking at him, so the baby bird doesn't see you as a big nasty predator that's eyeing him up as dinner.

Yeah I thought it might be because he was scared well he ate his carrot and apple today so let's hope it all good from here ATM he is singling with the canaries - whilst hanging upside down - think he is finding his feet now

Upside down and making a racket is a good day's work for a little budgie.

You and Olly will be just fine because you care about him. It's a good sign that he is eating a little and chirping a little. That means he is getting used to you. Ask any questions you have. I've learned so much from the nice people here. They will love and care about Olly as much as you do. He's in good hands.

Sounds like all worries there are over? Sounds like he has started to find his feet very quickly. (I should have finished my "water" spiel with "he will probably wait until your back is turned, or you leave the room, to have a drink").

Glad to hear Olly is eating now. I hope he/she is eating seed as well as veg though? I am disgusted with the attitude of the breeder! If he has a problem with people wanting baby budgies off him he should stop selling them, not moan about it afterwards... grrr!
