Hi, I am not too worried, but noticed my little baby girl 8 weeks is sleeping in her food bowl. It is one of those stainless steel ones. I don't think she is cold, as my house has CH. I have natural Willow branches in her cage but wondered if they are maybe too rough for her little feet? Kiwi perches on his bowl but she snuggles up right inside it. She looks soo cute.
Any ideas?

Might just be a baby budgie thing.
I take it she has no other health issues or weird behaviours?

If the baby is fine then you don't need to worry about. Check Barrie's Blog. There are many pictures of baby budgies sleeping in food bowls. I guess because baby budgies are provided with multiple foods in large quantities to encourage them eating and becoming used to everything, they end up stuffed up and prefer to have a nap there rather than perching ;D

I've heard they sometimes feel more comfortable in the food bowl. Maybe it's more like a nest to them or something, with added food of the kind that might be around when their parents were feeding them.

Yes some chicks like that and that's why breeders provide them with nest box like hiding boxes on the cage floors.

They are just looking to re-create the nest enviroment they have come from. It feels safe to them. Your little girl is still a baby.

I had it with both Bluey and Smudge. Sparky was an adult when I got him, so had grown out of that sort of thing.

Aw how sweet. I haven't had any budgies from that young age. The youngest was 3 months (Roswell and Snowy) and they had long grown out of that sort of thing.

hiding boxes in breeding cages are mainly to keep the chicks out of the cocks way when the hen is starting her second clutch but you baby is just simply doing what it would have done whilst it was in the nest and snuggling up with its self like it would have done as a chick in the nest box it must just prefer sitting than actually perching =]
