Hi everyone. I'm not sure if this thread comes under breeding, but I don't know where else to put it. Anyway, this budgie is my first surviving chick. Sadly he is no longer with us, but I was wondering what colour he was. Is he a rainbow? Thanks in advance Nicola

Thanks Barrie. I know it looks like a she, but as he got older it turned blue. I didn't know what he was to start with either. First off it was like in the picture, then it turned nut brown and then it turned blue. Is it possible that 'he' was a girl the whole time but the cere looked blue because he had major scalyface when he was older?
Also, as he got older, the black/brown on his head turned yellow. Do you still think he/she is a coal face?
He was less than 6 months in the picture
Thanks again Barrie

Hi I was going to say he's blue, but I expect you noticed that already. Agree with Barrie about Coal. Our name wasn't so PC. Cere colour is affected by hormonal imbalance amongst other things. Yours B.J.

Thanks BB. I loved him very much. He hatched on my birthday. Anyway, here are some recent ones before he died. Don't mind the scalyface, he was being treated for it. In the second pic, he is loosing the coal colour on his head and it is turning yellow. You can see his cere is brown. The last pic, he is only a few days out of the nest, but it was a good pic of his wing colours. Nicola

It is quite common for chicks that start off with a lot of barring on the head and face to loose it all at the first moult. Your bird was a yellow face spangle blue female

Thanks BB. I was so positive she was a boy! Her dad was a normal blue, but I am not sure what her mum was. What colour do you think she was to produce this coloured chicks?
