Hey everyone Just a quick note to say Ollie is all settled in having lovely time hanging upside down pretending to be a bat...i think. Anyway...the last few nights hes been waking up at around 2am - 4am screeching and flying all around his cage, even into the sides. He gets himslef all worked up and all his feathers are out of place like he has fallen off his perch...is this normal for a budgie? if so is there anything i can do to help him? dont like him getting all worked up xxx

Sounds like he might be having night frights.
Do you leave a lamp on for him?
Also the radio on low?
A noise outside can spook them easily.

Aww poor little guy, he is definitely having night frights. I can't really add anything more to Mariannes' advice of a nightlight and the radio on low. Are you covering him at night?

Is there anything else obvious such as car headlights shining in on him where his cage is? Something that might spook him at night. I've only ever had to get up to one night fright, but I remember how frightened they seemed- spent all night with them lol!! I hope he gets over them soon.

Hi I hate to be the one to suggest it, couldn't be mice could it. They would be attracted to the seed. I remember many years ago. Couldn't sleep, came down. In the moonlight a field mouse was tucking into there seed. Must have been a regular as the Budgie was just watching him eat. He got quite a surprise when he spotted me. (The mouse not the bird). Yours B.J.

Can you move his cage to a quieter spot for the night?
