Hi all We have been thinking about getting a Budgie for a canny while now and today we bought this cage. A seller at the car boot sale at Seaham, Co. Durham had all manor of bird and small mammal cages available at really good prices, some had minor faults and certain items missing but all where new . We selected this one and purchased for £10, its missing a perch or two but seems excellent for this price. Now we want a Budgie to house in the cage!.. We would like to aquire the bird from a local breeder instead of the pet shops around our local area. So can anyone please put me in touch with a breeder local.? (South Shields or Tyne and Wear area). Attachments:

Hi Seggs
Welcome to the forum.
Can you give us the measurements of the cage, it does look a bit on the small side.
The budgie will need to be able to fly (not just hop) back and forth.
Do you have space in your house to let the bird out for free flight too?

Hi Seggs and Welcome to the forum Marianne is right about the cage. It looks like a 15x15 cage. If that's right, this cage will only work if the budgie has outside time during day and the cage is only used for sleep during night.

Hi Seggs and welcome. I have to agree with everyone about the size of the cage. It certainly looks like one of the tiny ones we see in pet shops. As Gaile said, the biggest cage you can afford in both costing and room, is the one you want. I hope someone can help sort you out with a Budgie friend soon.

Thanks for the welcome folks.
Yes the cage is on the small side and we have'nt got the space really for a larger type one. But just like other Budgies ive had over the years the door of the cage will be open most of the day when its ok to do so. I picked Lou Lou up tonight from a local breeder, shes a lovely green female about 10 weeks old. The breeder went to great lengths to explain his excellent set up and even allowed me to view newly hatched chicks. Lou Lou has settled well so far and is sitting relaxed on one of her Willow perchs ( obtained today from the local park) as close as she can to me above the pc. Shes already showing signs of responding to my voice!

Sounds as though Lou Lou is right at home already. Would love to see some photos of the little girl when you're ready.
