Can anyone help? Saved a Blue Budgie from a cat @18.30, bird is injured and in some distress, also bleeding from its eye and wing. Bird is still quite energetic and biting so hoping it will survive. Found in the Hartshill area of Stoke On Trent, Staffordshire, ring on its leg is red with numbers 26.OWL5 10. If anyone could help please as we havent got a clue where or how to find the owner?

Do you have a cage for the budgie?
Budgies quite often die from cat attacks because of something in the saliva that is toxic to them.
If you are able to clean the wounds with savlon and then apply some cornflour/flour to stop any bleeding. Put the bird in a warm cage with some seed and water and cover 3 sides with a towel.

Well done in rescuing the budgie.....you will need to put the budgie in a quite and warm place to recover as shock can kill budgies!! phone local vets or make posters saying you have found a budgie!!

Thank you for your advice. Ive not got a cage so Ive put it into a shoe box with lots of holes in it. Is there a number i can ring to find out where the ring number is referenced to? Ive given the Budgie some water in a shallow bowl but dont have any seed. Ive contacted the RSPCA but they cant come out to collect it until tomorrow if at all. We have been told to ring the Budgerigar Society but cant find the number.

Brilliant. I'm now going through the numbers listed. I'm hoping that it will be reunited with its owner soon. Thank you for your help.

You are welcome. I have put an appeal on for a cage for you too. Please let us know how it goes.
First priority is to get the bird a cage and make sure it gets food/water and survives.
Then you can put an appeal on Parrot Alert (see the button at the top of the forum) to see if anyone claims the bird.

Seems that no-one is interested as they said they don't want the vets bill.

Have you tried all of them?
Did you ask if they have a spare cage?

yes tried them all, the general message is wait until BS line is open to get the owners details but I would hate for me to give it back only for it to be deemed too costly to keep due to vets bills. No spare cages either unfortunately. Id keep it if I thought it would just be put down.

Good news, after a million phone calls I've found a local "Birds in Need" in London Road Stoke who is very keen to have it from us, they don't take birds bigger than a Cockateel. She has a cage and the correct food and has promised not to put it down unless absolutely necessary. The Budgie is still active though now quiet as its covered, just relieved to have found someone who can look after it properly. I'll ring the BS line tomorrow and see if I can notify the owner of its whereabouts. Thank you for your help and advice and the kind offer of the cage appeal. We are most grateful.
