Hi just make sure the cage can't move about when travelling.
The motion of a car doesn't seem to trouble them. Some birds
enjoy the change of scenery. It wont cause them any stress.
Yours B.J.

Remove any perches and food pots. Place some cloth or newspaper on the cage floor to avoid any injury on possible sudden car stop.

And it's right that some birds like watching through window and hate being on car floor.

When we take our budgies to "Aunties" for their holidays....we take out food and water out of their cage.....and anything that swings....we do leave a couple of their favorite toys that are on the side of the cage and do not swing....also we sometimes cover the side of the cage that is next to the window as the passing cars will sometimes upset Madam....we also play the local radio station in the car as that is what they are used to in the house.....once you get them to their new home just replace the food and water and maybe give them a favorite treat....if they are going in their cage....they should be fine.....as it is their home and something they are use to.... If they are going in a different cage.....put in what is their favorite non-swing toys....and maybe a piece of millet..... Best wishes.....

Good advice! If they are travelling in a cage then I would seat belt the cage in place if you can. You might need to put a towel or something under the cage to keep the floor flat, Its surprising how slopey some car seats can be! Also take a spare cover in case they do get scared by the moving scenery etc. Some love it, but some get quite paniced and need covering. For the journey of 40 minutes I wouldn't bother putting water or food in. Only for longer than a 2 hour journey. Its best not to place them on the floor in the front if you have the heaters or even cool air coming through. Best of luck with the journey:)

I would leave them with a perch or two, but take out anything that swings and food and water pots. Millet can be offered if you think they need it. I too use the seat-belt to belt in the cage.

We used to regularly travel with our Joey and our boys. He preferred a high perch so he could see where he was going, but did cover the sides. He loved the journeys and when he saw we were going under a bridge he would duck, bless him Everyone's advice is spot on.

H I bet you didn't expect so much advice about moving a bird
from A to B. It might have helped if we knew if you were going
cross country in a battered old truck, or travelling along paved
roads in the comfort of a modern car. Basically its just common
sense. Hope everything goes OK. Yours B.J.

Thanks for all your advice everyone! It sounds like transporting them in their cage is the best option....however I have a problem this being that their cage is pretty big and my car is pretty small. Think I might have to get the tape measure out....I do have a smaller cage that I could take them in so have a plan B. Its a fairly straight forward journey on the motorway and A roads. Thanks again

What BB said. In fact I will go out on a limb and say the smaller the better.
