I don't think it is something they have to have. Mine never have, but I do know it is something show breeders do for their birds. Extra protein and all that.

I don't give them any meat. Instead I sprinkle protein powder on their softfood. Breeding birds require more protein. A pet budgie can also do with extra Canary seeds from time to time as they are high in protein.

Apologies to Mr Barry if I took your post the wrong way Thanks everyone for all your help. Has anyone ever tried freeze dried meal worms on their Budgies...we feed them to the Robins in the garden and they love them How often should meat products be fed to Budgies please? Hi As meat is a high protein feed about once a week, but if a good seed mix & fruit /veg + eggfood beware of protein overdose. Yours B.J.
