Hiya I'm sure someone mentioned it before but can't find it. Well i noticed an egg in the aviary was broken on the floor and I noticed it after observing one of my hens she's got an egg bum and appears close to egg laying. I do want her to have the eggs but not in the a aviary. I do have breeding cages. Should I catch her and her partner?

Hi I agree about being very careful about catching her. That's the beauty of taming. An aviary full is easier than a single bird. B.J.

Yeah that's the part that's worrying me is catching her and doing some damage

Do you want to move them from a colony setup to a breeding cage?

Yeah that's the part that's worrying me is catching her and doing some damage catch her at dusk, just as they'er starting to roost,it's easier then, when you have put her and partner into a breeding cageleave a light on for a couple of hours so they can find their way around.

I'm not breeding in the aviary I only plan to breed in cages which I intend to set up in the next few weeks and she's obviously started early lol. All hens in my aviary are in breeding condition

If they in breeding condition why not move them in cages now if u all set up, saves this happening again

Yeah would love to I'm just in need of a couple nesting boxes then I'm ready which I've gotta wait till payday. Well good news I've just put her in the breeding cage and 2 minutes later she's in the nest box clearing out some wood shavings lol. Attachments:

Defiantly. Considering a lot of people's birds don't go in straight away and normally take a couple days somive had some luck and looks like I'm gonna need to refill the wood shavings soon already

It's strange since I've moved her she hasn't laid another egg yet her poops are big and she is showing no signs of distress

Are you sure she was the hen that laid the egg?
