Hi Everyone,
You may have seen my health thread 12 year old budgie laying eggs, after some excellent advice I'm fairly certain we can help her stop laying eggs.
Sunny was meant to be a boy, I got her for my 13 or 14th Birthday a long time ago, I did try and tame her but I was unsuccessful fast forward 12 years maybe 13 and we're here looking basic budgie advice.
I know Sunny's old now but I'd like to mend my ignorant ways and make what life she has left enjoyable.
She is the main room in the house so always has people around her she has a toy she sits on when you go to talk to her, she does listen to you but if you touch her bars she'll threaten you by opening her beak, if you don't move she will go for your finger.
I just tried some millet though the bars and she ate that no problems but the toy she sits on is where she is happy to sit and listen to you so I don't know if this is the best approach.
Thank you in advance.

Hi It is, but dont offer your fingers without a treat, or your fingers become the treat. Constantly feed her treats & tasty tit-bits through the bars until she sees you as a friend & no longer wants to bite you. There is really nothing you can do to stop her laying as I said it's quite an involuntary act. It's the nearest thing to a phantom pregnancy in animals. Except for for the infertile eggs that get laid. As I said before a hen will stop laying when her hormones stop the formation of the eggs, usually anytime after 4-6 have been laid. by then she will be well into her broody stage. This is the time the cycle can be broken. too much disturbance can cause any hen to abandon her eggs but it can't stop her laying. All this disturbance on top off everything else, can really upset a bird & if as you say she's your pet. Why upset her. Yours B.J.
