Hello all My hen only laid 2 eggs then ended up breaking one, so left with one egg, I tryed candling it and doesnt look like anything in egg only 6 days so MIT be abit early, how long shud I wait befor getting rid of egg if nothing in and shud I just leave them in breeding cage, will she start laying again ??

One can only be sure of the fertility of the egg after 10 days of incubation.

Hi Carl. Give it time. As BB said about 10 days after it is laid only then should it be able to told if it is infertile or fertile. If it is fertile an dyou don't mind touching the eggs, I would recommend transfering it to another pair that already have eggs, and let the pair start fresh. Let us know how you go Nicola

Well this hen went egg bound so I transferred her two eggs to another hen and placed her into hospital cage, she finally past egg and now seems back to normal so i have placed her back with her mate to try again

Provide her with extra calcium and keep an eye on her.

Egg binding is not so much an egg problem, except in a over large egg situation. It 's more a general fitness to breed problem. Cal deficiency wouldn't affect the egg as any shortfall is taken from the hens own body. Yours B.J.
