Nice post, Moogie. I had forgotten how long it took Elfie to get used to you. Rob, while the cleaning off her feet may not have been the best start, or the crash/flying episode, what you have been doing since with sitting and talking, winking, blinking is good. This is the thread of Moogie's progress with Elfie. It may give you some ideas, it may also reassure you that you are on the right track , and that the best training takes time and effort (patience and persistance). You will have steps forwards and some back too, but that's all part of the fun!!! budgerigarsforum.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=budgietaming&action=display&thread=1510

do you know what, im so glad i found this forum! all you guys been so helpful so far got to say Daisy is a right attention seeker this morning, wont let me go from the cage lol.. yea i agree with the feet cleaning....unfortunately at the time it seemed necessary, as she was struggling to get about the cage climbing etc, one of the clumps was nearly as big as my little finger nail i might start documenting daisy's progress like that

well i just thought I'd sit next to her and talk with classical music on and put my hand next to her slowly, moving it closer and she seemed to appreciate it...and even let me sit next to the cage while she ate..and she's blinking with me...so im assuming thats progress she's soooo lush! now back on her perch....shaking AND grinding.....sooo confused Not sure exactly what you mean by shaking, but beak grinding is a good thing. They do it when they feel comfortable and are thinking of going to sleep.

also is this something to worry about, my little budgo when she jumps for a perch 70% of the time she'll miss and land on the floor of the cage....or is just because she's young? I would take it to SpecSavers. Yours B.J.

You definitely did the right thing, cleaning off her feet, Rob. Poor little mite shouldn't have been in that state, so you did the right thing, just meant that she had to put up with being held before you had a chance to build up any trust.
But it would seem she has taken it all in her stride, and is starting to rule the roost already, LOL. So can't have set her back too badly! She'll have you in the kitchen whipping up plates of veges in no time. ;D
