Having seen Nev's wonderful new creation i think the strangest picture of a budgie ive seen was the Blackfaced budgie. Has anyone ever seen one of these first hand.

Not me either. I don't think I would like it, I don't like the ones with the deep masks much, I guess I like my budgies coloured.

No black-faced budgies in New Zealand.
But this new mutation is good way to try to breed the black budgies, use the budgies with thickest bars across the body feathers, and through next 10-20 years the black bars become thicker, then fused through genes of budgies.
Cheers
Clinton.

Hi Clinton Very interesting thoughts there about breeding black budgies. Do you know what other mutations aren't there with you guys in New Zealand.

Would you classify this as a blackface or coalface, or just badly marked?, he is a normal dark green besides the marks on his forehead, I'll try to post pictures later

Thank you for the welcome, I just bought him yesterday because I saw it is a little strange, it is very possible that he or just badly marked as you say but I could not help it and bought him, I will wait for him to get in better health to breed him and see what happens for he is very thin but I would really appreciate your opinion, I'll try and get better pictures of him and post them.

You're welcome It is a very good idea to breed him in future as you don't know his parents and who knows he may have some gene in him. Are there breeders with rear mutations in your area?

Actually we're I live there are very few breeders and none with English budgies, the place were I bought this one bring them from all over Mexico but the employe had no info on the budgie, not even an approximate age, sooo I'll have a hard time figuring this little boy out but I'm really exited about it.
A little about myself, I am a vet studying my masters degree, I live in Lerdo, Durango, Mexico, here budgies are unexpensive pets that many breed without knowing anything about them and just a few people care about learning about them, I breed them because I love genetics and they are a very easy species to get a proyect and be able to see results. I hope to get a pair of English budgies sometime but it's a bit hard to find them. Thank you very much for reading me and I'll keep you posted about this boy, even if eventually he just turns out to be a normal with a bad moult

It's great to know about you and your studies regarding birds genetics. We do need good vets who know about birds and are able to take care of them.
The head bars are a little confusing but from his cere color this boy appears to be around 6 months old. How are the eyes like?

I agree with you I also calculate around 6 months but his eyes are really dark the iris is almost imperceptible, so that's a bit confusing,
