Thought i'd share this, as it's from when we brought her home...spent ageees trying to coax her out....and we finally had to play Skye (gf budgie) on my girlfriends phone to get her out... The background sound is pretty awful..we sound like robots lol

What a sweetie. Daisy does sound a bit like a duck. Good name choice then, huh.
It looks like you brought her home in a Chinese takeaway box!

Daisy is beautiful and she will be fine soon. It is normal for budgies to be scared and stressed and they take two days to two weeks to settle in the new place.
Daisy's behavior is understandable, after all she has come to robots home ;D

You are lucky that she didn't escape. I once brought a show hen in a card board box. When I got out of the car in the home she flew away. Apparently she chew the box on the way from pet shop to home and when I grabbed the box she escaped. Luckily my parking was closed

Hi Can i suggest you don't let your bird out again
until you have have mastered step up & return.
(See taming posts) once she really start to fly you
could undo all the trust you will have built up. Trying
to get her caged when she doesn't want to. Yours B.J.

I use the cage situation for a short time - mostly it doesn't take long for a bird to be comfortable once they settle and Daisy seems to be settling in well, then start the stepping up training. Once she is comfortable with your hand, and stepping onto your hand, letting her out in a small room and practising step-up for short periods several times a day will work wonders. Take her cage into the bathroom or whereever, and then let her out. Have a spare perch available to use for those out of reach places budgies always seem to find, so she can step up onto the perch and be retrieved that way. Just leave yourself plenty of time to get her back into the cage at the end of the session! You don't want to be rushed - that is when you can spook her and damage her trust. Sorry, Rob, got ahead of myself there.
