DO MEMBERS USE OR HAVE USED COD LIVER OIL FOR THERE BIRDS ?

Some breeders soak their seeds in Cod Liver Oil. Barrie uses Wheat Germ Oil for the same purpose.

Just thought I would try it out just because its full of vitamins and know of people that keep other birds like pigeons that use it was going to mix it with egg food or would it be better to use wheat gem oil Im just new to this game and any tips would be greatfull

I would say go for Wheat Germ Oil. Barrie has got excellent results from it

i used too but i switched to Eggfood. Im still looking for something different though. I would agree with BB that wheat germ oil is probably better, but you have to be more careful with that, i remember reading it spoils even more easily than C.O.L.

Gotta say I have heard that people use it for chickens who get egg bound (where they try to lay but cant get the egg fully out) so would assume it would be ok to use on budgies too

i would say in my opion a good alternative and safer way is a supplement called thrive on which also barrie uses i think this in my opion again is the modern way and its full of goodness aswell to supply clo hope this helps allan

Wheat germ oil is mixed into the seed , not eggfood, only mix two/three days of seed at a time as it can go rancid in warm weather. feed prior to breeding and 3 days a week during breeding

I used to use cod liver oil (one capful to one pound of seed) thouroughly mixed in by hand in all my seeds but some breeders I know only use in in millet seed, I wiil be using it again with my youngsters then gradually introduce it to all my birds.Lot of breeds ive spoken to dont believe in it, just personal opinion
